Francesca Sobande

Dr Francesca Sobande is a writer and senior lecturer in digital media studies (Cardiff University), who spends time dreaming and embracing all things emo. She is the author of The Digital Lives of Black Women in Britain (2020), Consuming Crisis: Commodifying Care and COVID-19 (2023), and Big Brands Are Watching You: Marketing Social Justice and Digital Culture (2024). Francesca is co-author/co-dreamer with layla-roxanne hill of Black Oot Here: Black Lives in Scotland (2022) and Black Oot Here: Dreams O Us (2023). layla-roxanne hill is a writer/dreamer/organiser living + healing in Glasgow, Scotland. She thinks, feels + acts upon many things, including the way our conditions move us to take action. layla-roxanne advocates for non-commodifiable collective liberation + is also active in the trade union movement, holding elected positions within the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) + the Scottish TUC (STUC).
